International Student Interns with Cincinnati Law Firm
Oliver Maaz, a law student from Munich Germany, has just begun an 11 week internship with the Cincinnati law firm of Wood, Herron & Evans. He has been attending the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich, a university that participates in exchanges that are coordinated by the Munich Sister City Association of Greater Cincinnati. The internship was arranged by Clem Luken, Munich Sister City Attorney Exchange Chairman and Ute Päpke, past president of the Munich Sister City Association and current Board Member. For many years, the Munich Sister City Association of Greater Cincinnati has been bringing students and business people from Munich to gain work experience in local Cincinnati companies. Cincinnati students and business people also go to Munich to work in German companies. Mr. Maaz has completed his 1st and 2nd written bar exams in Munich. He currently has the title of "Rechtsreferendar" and is also working on his thesis concerning intangible rights. This April he will take the final oral exam to become a licensed lawyer in Germany. Mr. Maaz is assisting the lawyers at Wood, Herron & Evans LLP regarding various technical and legal issues concerning intellectual property to a range of domestic and international clients. Mr. Maaz is also translating German language documents and is researching databases on appropriate search engines for court decisions regarding copyright, trademark and patent cases. In addition he has attended in-house and outside lectures in intellectual property presented by lawyers at Wood, Herron & Evans. There are various opportunities for Mr. Maaz to satisfy his interests in seeing the daily workload of the lawyers at Wood, Herron & Evans LLP in prosecution as well as litigation and comparing the German legal system with that in the U.S.
