Tyler Davidson Fountain
The top, right part of the Munich Sister City Association logo features Cincinnati's Tyler Davidson fountain. The fountain is located on "Fountain Square," the heart of Cincinnati's downtown. The fountain was created in Munich by August von Kreling (1819-1876), and dedicated in 1871. The 43-foot (13-meter) fountain is the oldest downtown sculpture. Water streams from the out-streched hands of the female figure representing the "Genius of Water." Cincinnati businessman Henry Probasco selected the design from August von Kreling's Munich studio, and erected it as a memorial to Tyler Davidson - Probasco's brother-in-law and business partner.
Munich Kindl
The bottom, left part of the logo shows the monk known as the "Munich Kindl", the representative of Munich. After the Huns invaded Bavaria in the tenth century, a group of Schaftlarn monks fled to the area of Germany that is now Munich. The city owes its name to this tiny settlement of monks near the banks of the Isar. The area was originally known as "Munichen" or "the monks" and eventually became known as "München" in modern German.
